Red

Thick dust blankets eastern Australia yesterday... blown across the country from the dry deserts on South Australia.

There's a layer of red on everything today... everywhere... even the grass outside is red. Bad craziness. The washing still on the line is... well... as there may be more dust coming over on the weekend, it can certainly wait a few days. A formerly-white cotton 'Library Bag' is now quite red... even the surrounding roadways, rooftops and trees all have a very noticeable red tinge to them... very surreal... [the sky and air s all clear now, thankfully].

My sons weren't affected at all from it, thankfully [two of them suffered from forms of asthma when they were much younger]. I'm excited to be able to spend some time with them this weekend too.

Oh, and the first Sailability of the year had been planned for this coming Sunday, but as the weather will be decidedly wintery, icy and extremely windy [not good for taking people with a disability out sailing in!], we've wisely postponed it.

  1. Glad the boys weren't affected Mal.

But we were still amused at the hysteria that Sydney reacted to it. It's a real worry for people with respiritory problems, but dirty cars? Come on.

  3. The sailing sounds like fun!

As for the dust, up here it all blew away, only a fine layer was left behind and small piles under all the cars. It was really windy all day yesterday and the waves at the beach were big and messy compared to yesterdays lake. I hope we don't get more on Saturday. I hate being stuck inside all day and I have so much to do in the garden this weekend.

  4. Fingers crossed it doesn't blow in again over the weekend either... it's no fun trying to dust things down [incl. flyscreens] and still being able to taste the dust in your mouth afterwards. Yuck.

Plus who wants to be totally stuck indoors with my kids over the weekend when we can be out and about mucking about and doing that fun-stuff somewhere... albeit close to a loo... [sigh].

The dust actually caused electricity supply problems around the place too... that didn't make the papers.

Poor South Australia... we've got a few layers of it laying about here in central NSW! :O

I'm feeling catch-22 about sailing at the moment... very weird situation for me to be in.

  7. It reminded me of many events like this in my childhood when we had drought and lots of dust - but then I didn't have to clean up
