Technology? Pooh!

I'm actually feeling quite bright, happy and positive, despite the verbal attack on me yesterday by a good mate.

I had lunch with another good mate today, Mr Hoon (the sailing guy), sitting in the sun at the cafe at our local Visitor's Centre. The pasta dish I had was scrummy*.

He told me the most hilarious story of his last day at work from this morning. He helps adult students at TAFE (Tech College) with learning disabilities. This morning he was giving a demonstration to a group of fellow teachers using some new IT technology... voice-recognition software.

How it is supposed to work is that you speak into the computer, and the words come up on the screen. Works for emails, essays, letters, whatever. Perfect for people who have typing disabilities etc.

However, we all know that modern technology ferks-up at the most inconvenient times...

When he spoke in the line (he was doing a demonstration, and using some simple humour), "Little Bo-Peep Lost her sheep...", it came up clearly on the large display screen.

The next line he spoke was, "but her father took it home" (or something to that effect).

So, up on the screen came the words... "But her father was a PAEDOPHILE." hahahahaaaa.

Of course, the software allows you to delete words, so that's what he went to do... except nothing happened.

The room was chuckling at the situation... and as he kept speaking in simple commands to the software to change/remove the norty word - the system froze on him!

Then the whole screen went blank... EXCEPT for the highlighted word "PAEDOPHILE" across the screen!!!

So, needless to say, the whole room was rolling about in stitches laughing!

They were all able to have a good laugh about it... but yeah. Twas one of those classic moments of "if something can go wrong, it will!" rofl.

*Scrummy = scrumptious and yummy :D
