It's All Good

We had another amazing jam/rehearsal on Sunday at J's place. Really good. Really constructive. Sensationally great vibe. We played together really well right from the first few bars. Even tho we haven't done anything together (just the three of us, Matt on guitar, J on drums and myself on bass and vocals) for about a month, it really went off with a great bang!

Tonight I burnt 2 CD's of songs for Matt, just so he's got a copy of the originals for future reference. J and I have been in situations for years where we either already knew most of these songs well enough already to play straight off, or we'd already been playing them for years. When I sat down and wrote out how many songs we actually already play now (let along the 30-to-40 others we haven't looked at yet!) - I nearly fell over when the list came to 72 songs! Wow! That's HEAPS to pick-and-choose from... all sorts of styles and moods to suit almost any situation.

No, that's not us (but it could easily be)... just some cool pic I found on Flickr! I did take my camera, and promptly forgot all about it...

So basically, we're ready to gig. Not bad for a bunch of old blokes just getting together for some fun, huh? It's nothing serious tho, really. We're just really enjoying playing together - it works and gels really well. There's a few small gigs possibly lined up in the next few months. But we'll just take things as they come.

Here's a list of songs we play already... and most of these came together straight away the first time we played 'em together.

No, that's not us (but it could easily be)... just some cool pic I found on Flickr!

Matt's a great guitarist... he's a real technical kinda guy (loves playing all the weird/special notes and scales, and has an amazing touch and tone to his playing - but he can really rock-out too!), while J and myself (as the rhythm section engine-room) have had a great feel/vibe from day one. I mean *really* good grooves happening easily. Tho, realistically, I'm glad we're just playing for fun and socially. I mean, I would not want to have Matt on some tour with me at all. He's... he's a great, fun, nice, caring bloke, he really is. But he also has some... erm... substance-abuse issues that he's not totally in control of either. It's never affected his playing... but to socialise with him is a rather... well, it's either hilariously funny, or I feel like I'm his mother running after his coattails all night, making sure he doesn't do anything really stoopid. heh he. Silly boy he is. But a bloody good guitarist.

Hey, I'm not trying to make ourselves out to be some up-and-coming mega rock group or anything! It's just that... when you've been playing live on-and-off for years and years, you don't realise how many songs you already know how to play without even realising you know how to play 'em! (or however that sentence is supposed to work... i dunno...)

It's just nice to have a little bit of a musical focus again in my otherwise quiet dull life.

  2. Thanks. That's just the ones we already know! You can imagine how many more possibilities there are to play... the list could end up nearer 200 if we're not too careful! heh heh

Anyways... it's time to start introducing some of my originals to the picture, I think :)
