1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything

Documentary: "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything" (2021)

I just finished watching this fascinating documentary, an 8-part TV series. Amazing insights into the musical, historical, social, and political upheavals of the time... a LOT went down in 1971!

Some GREAT albums and musicians were featured, with some rare unseen footage, interviews and clips.

I turned 7-yo in 1971, so I was wholly oblivious to all this stuff at the time. Nowadays, most of the albums mentioned in this documentary are some of my all-time favourites! Of course, not everyone gets a mention - there was a LOT of music that came out that year!

Rating: 4 out of 5 from me. Well worth seeking out.

NB. Warning: NSFW - drug references (cf. Sly Stone on the Mike Douglas Show), some graphic violence, naughty words etc etc... hey, it was 1971! [laffs]

►  ABC News (Australia) review (this is where I first heard about this great series).

►  Apple TV: "In a tumultuous era, 1971 was a year of musical innovation and rebirth fueled by the political and cultural upheaval of the time. Stars reached new heights, fresh talent exploded onto the scene and boundaries expanded like never before."

►  Rotten Tomatoes review: "It covers familiar ground, but with a feast of rare footage and a clear affection for its subject '1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything' is as edifying as it is entertaining."

Special Documentary: "Was 1971 Rock Music's Greatest Year?" (19:37)
