A break

The weekly Singer-Songwriters nights in Bathurst are unfortunately taking a break, until we find an alternative venue / performing space. The Kings Hotel has been more than sensational to us over the last four+ months, but they are now wanting to focus more on their new restaurant - oh, have you seen it yet? It's great.

Of course I'm disappointed, especially when we've been getting some great feedback and a whole lot more people interested on regularly playing as well. The venue and manager were really happy with the way everything was going. He just wants to change the focus of the place a bit. Oh well, shite happens.

Just when I'd finished working-out a set for this week too! Hah!

Actually, I was challenged by a fellow gifted muso on Friday night to 'spend this whole week playing my guitar without a pick [plectrum] and just use your fingers'... and so I have. It's been really refreshing, as I haven't used that style of playing in like twenty years.

Oh, and I've been sick... and I know you don't want or need to know specific details... just something that seems to be 'going around' at the moment.

  1. Mal, it is such a shame that just when things are goingsmoothly something has got to change, but as we kno, that is life..or, such is life.
I once tried to teach myself to play Nicholas' guitar..my fingers hurt so bad I gave up. Perhaps the plectrum is the thing I needed to use? Hmm, I may try again.
Hope the bug racks off soon matey... take care.

  3. That sucks about the hotel, but I'm sure something else will turn up, the universe seems to be on your side lately music wise at least.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  4. I hate having to 'haggle' just to play my own "Lancelot's Pram" stuff, let alone find another venue that's willing to do these singer-songwriter nights as well, even if it's a total freebie for them. it's not so encouraging promoting promoting promoting amongst local musos about these things, and they just never turn up. What can you do? They tell me there's a desperate need for these things here in town, yet they don't support them themselves. Go figure.

Things were looking really good over the next few weeks too. we had seven performers confirmed for Wednesday night, and we even had a guest artist from interstate paying us a visit in two weeks. you can't win!
