Mt Victoria

The people of the upper Blue Mountains didn't quite know what to make of a singer/guitarist who actually aimed to entertain his audience last night! Plus someone with an interactive performance and light-show? I almost laughed at them as some of them seeped that annoying feeling "I take myself so darkly serious that I shit bats" kinda thing, but bugger them! I have fun - and they totally appreciated that. They reacted positively, and even asked me back, so that's a plus. But a very weird 'cliquey' kinda feel as well, even tho I was made to feel welcome enough. Coming from Bathurst was kinda like coming from Mars, as far as they were concerned, I think?

No no... it wasn't really that bad. I was feeling a bit blerghy with this bloody snuffly cold that continues to linger around a bit... I was feeling really tired, actually. Thankfully I conserved all my energy so I could jump around like a maniac while I performed instead! heh heh.

Everyone only performs just three original songs on these excellent Tuesday night events, and of course it's a great opportunity for all sorts of people with all sorts of skills, styles and [sometimes political] agendas to get-up and 'do their thing' in front of people.

I have no 'agenda' apart from bringing a smile to peoples' face - and unusually - that's really quite rare doing 'solo singing/playing' stuff, I've discovered!

Thankfully I did know someone there, a lady singer-songwriter that is seriously a spiritual-clone of Joni Mitchell. Her playing, voice and songwriting sends shivers up your spine. Pure transcendence. She used to live here in Bathurst and has recently moved up that way, so it was great just being able to sit-down and chat away happily together in front of a roaring fire for a good 45-minutes before she played.
Tis a great venue... it's an old rambling 'Victorian' hotel, and they set-up in the old ballroom, which was interesting enough. Between you and me, it would have been a much better atmosphere if we'd set-up in the front bar (where live music is usually played Friday and Saturday night). Hmmm...

Twas the first time in my 30 years of playing that I'd ever seen a group of people playing 'christian goth Tex-Mex country'... totally bizarre yet fascinating! That's the weird Blue Mountains for ya.

The drive was a breeze... only took me 65 minutes to get there - much quicker than I expected to travel the 81kms door-to-door. Thankfully the weather was relatively kind for that area at this time of year.... just a bit of light misty rain at one point was no biggie, thankfully. I've tried to drive thru there in the past thru fog so thick that you could not see 10 feet in front of you! None of that last night tho, thankfully.

Then I'm doing it all again tonight at the Kings Hotel here in Bathurst... depending on how many people turn-up to play tonight, I may be able to play for about 25 minutes this time. I'm wanting to try three new original songs I haven't played 'live' [in front of people] before tonight - wish me luck. I'm no master, just an old hack having a bit of fun before he kicks it! heh heh.

It's really quite hilarious getting oft-feedback from people who tell me "I love watching your passion for life!" [etc] when I play... it's interesting, considering the performance is coming from someone who's a manic depressive is interesting, huh...? "The laughing clown..."

  2. I would have liked to have seen you jumping around like a maniac! But be warned, I probably would have got up and joined you! hehe!

I do believe that once we have been depressed, we have only one way to go...UP! So up we go in a big way! (yeah sometimes we slip on the stairs, but we get up again and off we go!) So glad you are having fun with it, obviously its showing and people are enjoying your spirit. When you do something you love it generally shines out for others to see.

I would so love to come and see you perform one day. I'll have to keep my eye out for your venues. You will have to let me know if you ever perform on the coast.

I am eagerly awaiting your CD release too. I will buy one.

    Hugs xxxx

  3. I wish I could have been there to watch you play! - and then you would have known there was one other "marsy" person out there with a big smile on her face!

  4. Ha! When I lived in Katoomba I used to call 'em "HippyYuppies" they were the ones who vehemently opposed a Maccas opening.
My older kids grew up in the Blue Mountains and they are a cliquey bunch, almost incestuous, I was glad when my son moved to inner Sydney.
Glad they received you well, one day you might look out into the audience and see a bunch of your blogger friends!
