Sounds of Now

A long time ago, in a venue far, far away... twas written a 45-rpm single, and released in the black-and-white days of 1985.

Come full-circle, 23 years' later. Same song, demo'd at home by Mal, to show the Box of Sox guys a cool song to try out.

All fun... tho trying to program the drums on this one was a right cow... there's gotta be an easier way to do it that how I was doing it, but twas only my first attempt. Live and learn.

Can't wait until we start recording Julian playing live drums instead. That just makes everything feel so much... nicer!

This should be the last of 'em for a little while. I'll start fooling around with some of my original ideas now, I think, instead of just fleshing-out old old old band songs from 20 years ago!

Thanks for your comments, folks. When "the blackness" envelopes me, I can't focus doing anything long enough, let alone trying to write something constructively.

We'll be able to record a whole proper album of the band easily enough using "The Thing", now I've worked out the basics of how to use it. There's still a zillion things that it can do, that I have yet to even look at yet. wOOt.

As far as the playing and singing, that's just me having a bit of fun, nothing too serious there. Those last six home demos I've done would equal half an album, but I'd want to re-record them before I considered doing that. Anyways... they're just ruff demos, that's all. But doing an album at home would be extremely easy, all the same.

Yeah... Eddie and I did a whole album at home in just one evening, so it can easily be done.

Imagine how amazing it could sound if you spent a few months tweaking with it? The mind boggles.

Speaking of Eddie... the poor bugger is having his arse worked off lately. But he's able to come along to the band practice tomorrow (Saturday), and we'll be able to re-record his vocals on his "Kai Viti" album while we're there. The vibe whilst playing with a band will be easier there for him to sing 'properly', than sitting in my backroom at home! lol. Yay. I actually don't find it too hard sitting at home to (try to) sing, but I don't sing my loud gravelly stuff at like 3 in the morning... my poor neighbours would lob bricks thru my windows, surely!

And who could blame them...?

Stop Press...

Matt rang tonight... he's spent the day in hospital, with acute stomach cramps, vomiting and other nastiness. They don't know what it is, but he's home now anyways. Not good. Poor bugger.

At least his mums' there able to look after him, while he's weak as anything. Obviously tomorrows' rehearsal has been postponed. Eddie sent me a text message not 15 minutes ago, letting me know he'll be working all day tomorrow, and couldn't have made it anyways.

Sheesh... what an evening!

Plus they're predicting an overnight low of -5c / 23f... time to crack out the ugh boots, I'm afraid.

I'm feeling fine, just very weary (as usual).
