Cold!

Twas blinkin' cold here last night... -4c / 25f. Nice and toasty warm inside here tho. Glad I didn't go out as I thought I might, tho. Watching a band beside a nice roaring fire down at the local pub sounded tempting... but the walk back home afterwards in sub-zeros wasn't exactly good motivation. Much nicer, a nice night at home anyways. Watching The Goodies!*** Yay!

You know it's cold here (yes, it does get cold here in Australia, even though we're in the midst of the worst drought in 100 years...), when the surface of Thoon's old fishtank (outside but undercover) had a layer of ice over it this morning! Gagh!

I'd resealed the leak in the old fishtank, so it doesn't leak at all now. I've been keeping it outside on the back verandah, with some water in the tank, just to ensure the leak was well-and-truly plugged (it was).

*** Bet you hadn't heard about this before! I know I did, albeit years ago...
"On 24 March 1975 Alex Mitchell, a 50-year-old bricklayer from King's Lynn literally died laughing while watching an episode of The Goodies. According to his wife, who was a witness, Mitchell was unable to stop laughing whilst watching a sketch in the episode "Kung Fu Kapers" in which Tim Brooke-Taylor, dressed as a kilted Scotsman, used a set of bagpipes to defend himself from a black pudding-wielding Bill Oddie (master of the ancient Lancastrian martial art "Ecky-Thump") in a demonstration of the Scottish martial art of "Hoots-Toot-ochaye." After twenty-five minutes of continuous laughter Mitchell finally slumped on the settee and died from heart failure. His widow later sent the Goodies a letter thanking them for making Mitchell's final moments so pleasant..."

  1. I never heard of that story, but if you had to die...i guess that's the way i would like to go...other than sleeping.

  2. Hmmm, I wouldn't have thought that desperately trying to catch my breath while suffering a heart attack would have been a particularly pleasant way to expire, given that it lasted 25 minutes.

  3. I can't believe how cold it is there. I would happily trade with you, it has been in the 90's here, with very high humidity.

I don't blame you for staying home. Walking home in the freezing cold is not fun.

I never heard that story. It must be a very, very funny show.

  4. There was ice, over 2cm thick floating in Luke's water trough. I broke the surface of it and then picked glass like panes out, just like glass, but not as sharp! I then smashed 'em to smithereens. Yarrghhh! Waste of water I guess.

The pipes didn't defrost till 10.
