Peace

Today is Richard Starkey's 68th birthday.

Who?

You know... this boy ;)

I stumbled across this story that I'd totally forgotten about... both inspiring and tragic.

10-year-old Samantha Smith, from Boston, wrote a letter to the then-leader of the USSR, Yuri Andropov, in 1983. Twas the height of the Cold War.

He wrote back, inviting her and her parents to come over to Russia to visit. She accepted, and they arrived in Moscow on this day in 1983.

Check out their exchange of cool letters. She was only 10-years old. Very cool.

The tragic side of this story is that she and her father were killed in a plane crash, when she was only 13 years old.

  3. No idea who Richard Starkey is, but that photo looks like what's his name? So I went to wiki. Wiki's wonderful eh? From Ringo I went to James Taylor and from there to Joni Mitchell and last night in the bath I was singing all those old Joni songs.
    Songs are like Tatoos. eh?

  6. If we knew what lay in store for us, we wouldn't go there, I suppose? The journey is all part of lifes' rich tapestry. [shuts up and stops waxing philosophical nonsensical twinkle! lol].
