Somedays are Better

(3.30am, Monday morning. Sheesh.)
"Some days are dry, some days are leaky
Some days come clean, other days are sneaky
Some days take less, but most days take more
Some slip through your fingers and onto the floor
Some days you're quick, but most days you're speedy
Some days you use more force than is necessary
Some days just drop in on us
Some days are better than others

Some days it all adds up
And what you got is not enough
Some days are better than others..."
(U2 off their 'Zooropa' LP)
I managed to sit down with Matt last night, after our musical jam. I'll just say "things are better than they were", which is a positive thing. Not exactly as they should be or have been between ourselves, but better. And it's a start, isn't it.

When you sit down and set some specific boundaries, as in me physically saying to him at the start, "Look, I don't want to / not prepared to talk about 'X-Y-Z' with you at the moment, but thanks all the same", as politely as I can. And for the next ninety minutes he keeps saying repeatedly, "Look, I know you've said you don't wanna talk about it, but... what's happening with 'X-Y-Z' anyway?" That's... that's no good. Not to me, anyways. Not right at the moment, not with the way I've been traveling within my psyche just lately.

"At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines... that are way too dangerous to cross..." (Source)

I'll be blunt... I don't actually 'like' him as a friend. I think I more 'tolerate' him as a close associate. Does that make sense? Anyways, it's getting better.
"Getting so much better all the time
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better

I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved
Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene
And I'm doing the best that I can..."

The actual musical jam was, again, a highlight of my otherwise bleak-outlooking week. I think all four of us (excluding Eddie, who, for the fourth week in a row was a 'no-show'... hrm...) realistically realise that at the moment the band is at a moment of staleness, like we're just 'going thru the motions' a bit. It's lost a lot of its initial vitality and spark, and is getting rather, erm, monotonous. Musically, that is. Let's be honest, it's not just me. So yeah, I think it's time we need to just all sit down together and have a big chat about everything. A positive, not a huge putdown. Nothing like that. Try a few new different things, rather than churning thru the same ol 'hits' all the time.

Mick's good - don't get me wrong. He's got years more experience than I have. Yet he tends to get a little 'blinkered' in his thinking when it comes to playing certain styles of music. I'm not talking about doing heavy metal or hard rock instead, nothing like that. (While that stuff can be fun and sometimes challenging to do, we're not that kind of band, really.) Just something a bit more musically and rhythmically 'challenging' than basic 12-bar blue covers!

What I suggested, and should be happening in the next few weeks, is for the five of us to come around and have a purely social night. No music, no instruments, no agenda, apart from hanging out over a simple meal and watching "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" together. It's gotta be done! A bit of light male bonding. lol

On another thought... here's my new desktop photo I stumbled across on Flickr, for my laptop. Looks very cool [boom boom tish!]

Lately I've been using a pic that Caroline had on her blog a while ago, of two large Clydesdale horses in a paddock in the rain - lots of greens. Tho I usually change my desktop pic about once a month-or-so, whenever I think of it. Just for a change of scenery. Lots of blues this week.

Thanks to WTDingo for the idea...

What's your "Message in a Bottle"?

So, have you ever done something like this yourself?
